Tricia Cutler creates wheel-thrown intricately carved nature inspired pottery. She finds passion in carving on clay, creating landscapes or layers of organic patterns wrapping around the functional forms. Her techniques are sourced from illustration and relief printmaking. Similar to carving linoleum, she carves into clay creating a scene. The imagery on the wares comes from her experiences in the world, viewing nature as a source of inspiration. Meanwhile, everyday rituals inspire the shapes of the vessels. Much like ritual, her process requires repetitive motion. Tricia’s adventures guide her spontaneous choices in creating with clay, while the rituals of her practice help her to feel grounded by creating small batches of pottery.
